Guest guest
A number of labs have just submitted some data on SARS survival times to W. H. O. Check it out at http://www.who.int/csr/sars/survival_2003_05_04/en/ The SARS virus can live for 4 days in diarrheal stool (pH of 9), but only 6 hours in normal stool (pH of 8). Baby stool has a pH of 6-7 and the SARS virus can only survive for 3 hours in this more acidic medium. So the SARS virus lives happily in alkaline environments but not so long in even mildly acidic environments. Good hygiene and hand washing will play a big role in controlling this particular disease.
