Guest guest
Jim Ramholtz asked Robert Hayden if our Illinois state association had contributed to the campaign of the governor who signed the IL ephedra ban. Here is an answer: Yes, the ISAA did donate a very small amount to his campaign. Tell the group that we couldn;t get an exemption for the ban because herbs ARE NOT IN OUR SCOPE OF PRACTICE. That will change when we pass our bill during veto session. After herbs are in our scope, we will find a way to be able to use ephedra. They do want to work with us but felt that they needed to stop the evil dietary companies from harming any more folks. Even the powerful lobbyists from metabolife couldn't get a single vote out of the House of Representatives. everyone thinks that ephedra is POISON. we need to change that perception. I'm working on it, but it will be the responsibility of every acupucturist in this state to educate their reps. ..one by one. By the way, do you all know about Sen. Durbin's bill (S722)? If passed, it will completely REVERSE DSHEA which we fought so hard to pass 10 years ago, DSHEA has allowed for herbs and supplements to be more readily available OTC and has allowed us to put what the herb's intended use is. This is an even more tragic bill. Please visit nnfa.org and send a letter to your Senator...better yet, let's stop this bill in committee. I have this information at my clinic and will forward it onto you Thursday. Claudette Baker President, ISAA
