I think COMP is an essential group to be involved; but I don't think they should

go this

alone. We need to involve librarians/technologists who have expertise in

thesauri and

their development. In other professions they have found that it works best to

have

working groups from the national organizations as well. We'll need support ($,

time and

thinking resources) from all corners of the profession; I think this project is

both timely

and achievable.

I question whether we can really have doctoral programs without functional

access to the

literature in our field. I spoke with a librarian at an OM school yesterday

who told me

his students actually page through all the Tables of Contents for each issue.

Not good...

The Libraries of Oriental Medicine (AKA " LOOM " ) are thinking about this issue as

well and

will be presenting a proposal in November to CCAOM. Few of our librarians are

OM

practitioners and the development of our thesaurus is something that our

profession, not

the librarians actually own.

I appreciate your thoughts on this and would like to talk with any of you who

have

suggestions.

Best,

Della

Would COMP be interested in doing that if practitioners contributed

money?

P.S. Cleaning up last night I found photos of the very first COMP

meeting Bob Flaws was kind enough to sponsor!
