Guest guest
Marnae - Please send my regards and gratitude for Kevin's work on this. His credibility as a person is no doubt a portion of why this is happening. Will While originally opposed to the exemption, Cooper worked with Kevin Ergil to understand our use of the substance, our training and our examination process and agreed to include the language that Kevin presented. Since the passage of the bill in Suffolk, Legislator Cooper has become a strong supporter of the exemption. He spoke to legislators in Albany to encourage them to use the exemption language and he has been in touch with the office of Senator Durbin from Illinois who is introducing a ban in the US Senate. We are very pleased with this result and look forward to seeing this exemption make national legislation!
Guest guest
Those of you who saw they New York Times today probably saw the article about the forthcoming ban of Ephedra in New York. Well, the new is not all bad. At this time (Wednesday evening) both the Senate and the Assembly bill contain the same language used in the Suffolk County bill that exempts NCCAOM herb certified practitioners from this ban. Special thanks go to the Honorable Jon Cooper of Huntington, NY. Legislator Cooper introduced the original bill in Suffolk County. While originally opposed to the exemption, Cooper worked with Kevin Ergil to understand our use of the substance, our training and our examination process and agreed to include the language that Kevin presented. This process has underscored for Kevin and me how important it is to remain involved in local as well as national politics. We worked for several months here in Suffolk to get this exemption. While we were pleased when it actually happened, it has turned out to be much more important than we ever imagined. While it is still possible that the language will change prior to passage of the NY Legislature we hope that it will not. Marnae Marnae C. Ergil, M.A, M.S., L.Ac.
