Greetings to one and all.

I recently joined the list and introduced myself, but please let me remind you that I am a veterinarian in the US, with a board-certified specialty in Veterinary Behavior. I have been in practice for 20 years, and am the author of a number of books. I have also published extensively in the veterinary literature, most recently in JAVMA, June 2003. Dr. has told me of this list, and I am honored to be a member. I am a novice at Traditional , and I am here to learn, in part by eavesdropping on the discussions among you!

I am currently writing a book for Iowa State Press on Herbal Treatments in Veterinary Behavior practice. The book will not include holistic remedies in the tradition of Hahneman (homeopathy). It will include Native American, Chinese, Ayurvedic and other herbal traditions. This has not been compiled previously and the task is quite daunting. I will restrict my focus to botanicals that have scientific basis for their use, with published references. I do not seek to exploit any indigenous communities.

I would welcome your replies to the questions below, and would gratefully acknowledge your input in the book's preface. I am sure that the publisher would be glad to forward a complementary copy to those of you who are particularly helpful:

1) What herbal remedies do you use or have heard of using for problems relating to:

DESTRUCTIVENESS

SCRATCHING, BITING, AGGRESSION

IRRITABILITY

EXCESSIVE VOCALIZATION

COMPULSIVE (STEREOTYPIC) BEHAVIOR

SEIZURE-RELATED BEHAVIOR

URINARY OR FECAL INCONTINENCE, HOUSE SOILING (INAPPROPRIATE URINATION OR DEFECATION)

ANXIETY, FEAR

DEPRESSION, LETHARGY

HYPERKINESIS, HYPERESTHESIA, HYPEREXCITABILITY, AGITATION

MASTURBATION, HYPERSEXUALITY, UNWILLINGNESS TO MATE

DISRUPTION OF SLEEP-WAKE CYCLE

UNDESIRABLE PREDATORY BEHAVIOR

OTHER?

2) References that you have used would also be welcome, although I will of course be doing an exhaustive search for references in the English language.

I thank you all for your kind assistance!

Sincerely yours,
