Guest guest
Hi all.. I have been enjoying the discussions on the list for quite awhile, now, and thought it was time to finally introduce myself. I am a somewhat newly licensed acupuncturist/herbalist in Seattle. I recognize many of my colleagues on this list--(it's good to see you!). I've been traveling around the world and having a generally fabulous time in the year since my graduation, but am settling down now to open my practice. My question is whether anyone knows if there is a group of people who have knowledge on having a hospital based practice...or who are actively working with western medicine practitioners? I seem to recall something flying by on the list about that. Since my background is in hospital work and the insurance industry--I have a lot of friends who are encouraging me to open a hospital-based practice. While I am drawn to the concept, and I want to bring chinese medicine to a wider audience, I am somewhat worried and pessimistic about exposing this form of medicine to western medicine hard-liners. I would love to hear from people who have attempted this--and find out what their experience has been. Also, to get any ideas on what to try and what to avoid as I move closer to this..er...collaboration (?). It's amazing how many nurses and hospital staff passionately support this medicine in private conversations with me, but when a group gets together, they will openly denigrate it. Susan You might want to contact Mercy college in New York. their training is hospital based with an eye to place students in hospital based practices after graduation. Bob Flaws has recently joined their faculty and he might also have some thoughts on this matter, but he is away for a few weeks.
