Dear Group,

Does anyone have a source for slides that show herbs being grown, harvested

and processed? I would like to use something like this as a teaching aid. If

there is a book that contains such pictures, I could scan them and make

slides out of them.

I am very low-tech in my teaching methods -- I use real herbs and tastings

and handouts with pictures on them, but some of my students have suggested

slides.

Thank you.

Julie,

I think that Steven Foster had pics of Chinese herbs. And possibly Peter

Holmes. I'd love shots of harvests and processing too. Let me know if you

some up w/ anything

Try Michael Moore's website. He has an extensive collection of herb

pictures available (mostly western). He offers a wealth of western

herbalism, esp old eclectic books that are fully posted and available for

downloading. Just use this address:

The book is out of print, and it seems unlikely the publisher will reprint

it. It is a beautiful book, but I suspect it was too expensive to reprint

without a huge price increase. Of course, some of the publishers on the list

may be better informed about that.

There is " A Coloured Atlas of the Chinese Materia Medica Specified in

Pharmacopoeia of The People's Republic of China " . I have the 1995 edition.

It has color photos of plants growing, close-ups of samples and

cross-sectional microscopic photos. It's published by the Joint

Publishing(H.K.) Co., Ltd. I can't quite remember who i ordered it from, but

a sticker on the back says 'EastWind Books'. I can't find it in the Redwing

Catalogue or at Amazon. Blue Poppy may have had it at that time. I mention

it in case someone else knows of it and a possible source.

My company president has both the Atlas and the Pharmacopoeia in the Chinese formats. They are great resources if you or your company can afford them. Bea and Harvey Dong at the Eastwind Books in Berkeley are very helpful and knowledgeable. It's a great place to visit when you're in town.
