Thank you Simon. Since acupuncture is working well, I fear that

herbs would somehow tax the patient's kidneys.

Patient is 63 year old male presenting with " Focal Segmental

Glomerulosclerosis. " He has had proteinuria since his 20's.

Before treatments, his creatinine levels were 3.5, BUN 84. His

doctors were ready to put him on the Kidney transplant list at his

next visit. However, he received 4-5 acupuncture treatments, and

his levels lowered to creatinine 2.7 (same as levels detected last

year), so doctors decided to wait 6 more months to see what

happens. Originally, he was very fatigued, with strong thirst and

sweats easily. He had frequent and urgent foamy urination. He

is hypertensive (ranges from 120's to 180's over 80's) on

medication. He also works 7 days per week, is in charge of

many things and has a home office. Originally, his tongue was

pale-purple with a thin white coat, tongue body was swollen and

scalloped. His pulse was slow, choppy especially in Spleen

position. Along with treatments, he has been advised decrease

the stress/work load, and to eat molasses and dark leafy

greens. After his treatments, his tongue is now only slightly pale,

less scalloped. His pulse is stronger and no longer choppy, but

does appear wiry depending on his work schedule (which he

has not decreased). He is no longer fatigued, and is less thirsty.

He has not been able to report any change in urination (he is too

busy to notice). His RBC, WBC's are still low. He is on

Labetalol, Avapro, and Zaroxolyn. Patient denies any other

symptoms.

Since his condition is better, would herbs help him more? His

treatment goal is to " keep his kidneys. " Any recommendations?

Thank you,

LiMing Tseng

<<I disagree with this emphasis, for in kidney diseases, as in

many others unless one knows the formulae and particularly the

key herbs and their doses which work for the disease, results

are often less than can be possible in this difficult area..
