In Chinese, to memorize formulas, you have a poem that summarizes the main ingredients and functions. With regards to individual herbs, there are similar poems. Also, tell her to focus on the Chinese name - that will indicate many of functions of the herb. She might do well to browse in her local Chinese bookstore.

 

I think she might just be a bit overwhelmed in the beginning, but over time and rote memorization, it will come - especially when one studies formulas.

Hi,

 

Mnemonics never worked for me. Peter Holmes has a good book out where herbs

a re set up in tables according to their common properties. Can't remember

the tltle off hand. The other exercise I found that helps is to build

individual files from materials and pictures gleaned off the Internet. Once

the file with pictures and properties is made up, get a sample , put it in

one of those small 1' X 2 " plastic envelopes and clip it on to the info

sheet. Than read, read read. Another thing that helps is to associate the

herb with someone who could use it....
