Guest guest
WOW you have got to be kidding... I knew that Academia did not pay much, however $20.00/hour that sounds rediculious. When I was an intern in the clinic each supervisor monitored about 6 interns and each intern saw 3 to 4 patients a shift. So the school made around $600.00 of which the Supervisor made about $100.00.... ekkkkkkkkkkkks, something wrong with that picture! In San Diego making $20.00/hour varily puts one above poverty level. I looked around before taking this job and every school I checked out but PCOM basically offered wages like this (20/hr.). no wonder.... Guest guest
Well, if this is the case... then I highly encourage people applying for jobs in California and other states to negotiate for a higher pay!!! You are worth it!!! For heavens sake *anyone* with 5 years of practice in Acupuncture and Herbal Practice is worth more then $20.00/hour. Do not be afraid to negotiate higher... even if we LOVE what we do and it is our calling... we deserve to be paid what we are worth. Then again, I guess *what we are worth* is dependant on the individual. I just did the math and $20.00/hour for 1 year is like 38,000/year... so after the tax man, maybe take home around 28,000/year. I just do not see how someone living in California can live on that. The cost of maintaining a license comes with a pretty high price tag... when you consider mal-practice insurance, insurance for slip and falls, professional clothes to wear, not to mention CEU's. In any event, your job offer at $20/hr is an insult to the professionals on this list, IMO. It also suggests an answer to why you have expressed such disgust with the quality of the teaching at your " large Oriental Medical school in Metropolitan LA. Guest guest
Hi Rory, I don't know Yehuda's specifics, but many students are hired in administrative positions from community colleges, to universities as well as medical schools. I was a 2nd year medical student at a University of Texas center when I was hired to teach human dissection lab to first OT and PT masters program students and then to medical students. I finished #1 at the top of my class in anatomy in my medical school and worked for the medical museum as a prosection specialist before earning my teach post. I got to save $24,000 in tuition which is often the way students are paid. I also got a $1,000 stipend for each semester of teaching. So students might well be the contact person if they are assisting the president or dean of an institution.
