Guest guest
visa ve: CSOMA and ma huang to clarify that it wasn't CSOMA's war cry - it was a panel discussion at the CSOMA conference. Andrew Gaeddart brought up the issue, saying as far as he see Ephedra was already lost. Lise Groleau of K'an Herbs made the point about not being able to afford to carry ma huang in their product lines. The other people on the panel that day: Brian Fennen, Bill Egloff, Richard Ko, David Molony, John Chen. I still do not believe malpractice would be affected. I also think that over time, enterprising product liability insurers will step in and fill the void. The data will prove that the hysteria is misplaced. Especially when laws pass that make a distinction between companies like Crane and metabolife, the former being a professional supplier with zero incident reports in their files. One of the things I pointed out is that if our profession shows professionalism and responsibility, as we thus far have done, our suppliers may be able to get a reversal on the absurd insurance increases that manufacturers have for Ephedra for professional users. It is my goal, and AAOM's as well, to bring AA plants to professionals for short term use. That part of being professional is more difficult, as it is expensive. Sadly, our profession chooses to leave their heads in the sand over professionalism and supporting their professional organizations. I'd like to see the CCAOM as a whole supporting or sponsoring work on saving our pharmacopaea, and expect suppliers to help out to some extent. I remain hopeful, but sometimes it is difficult. They are into every style of acupuncture and appear to be slowly getting into herbs. In the future, we may be forced to get a prescription from a medical acupuncturists for a Ma huang product.
