Guest guest
There is an article in The New York Times Science section today discussing efforts to evaluate various herbs and other approaches to menopausal hot flashes in the wake of the news about HRT. Overall, they mention that most herbs have the same effects as placebos, and that the search is still on for the one " magic bullet " ingredient which will take care of the problem. Black cohosh is mentioned, but described as no more helpful than placebo, for the most part. Dang Gui and ginseng are mentioned as showing " no benefit for hot flashes, " with no reference to their being used other than singly. A sidebar lists approaches for women to try, including individual herbs, soy foods, etc. Then it states: " If you are ready to move to combinations, go to a licensed practitioner of Chinese or herbal medicine who knows how different plants work -- and how they interact. " This is the only suggestion that something more than one magic ingredient will do the trick, and one of the few times in this paper I have seen Chinese herbal medicine spoken of in a somewhat favorable light. Some progress, I guess. Pat ============================================================================== NOTE: The information in this email is confidential and may be legally privileged.
