Guest guest
Anyone interested in what the Zhong Yao Da Ci Dian says about spearmint (Mentha spicata, Xiang Hua Cai)? Nature & flavor: Acrid, sweet, warm (No other Chinese source cited says anything materially different.) Functions & indications: Courses wind, rectifies the qi, stops pain. Treats common cold, headache, duictal and abdominal distention and pain, dysmenorrhea. Another Chinese source adds, " treats pediatric milk cough. " Yet another Chinese source adds, " treats... vacuity taxation cough; stomach and intestinal qi distention. " And a third Chinese source says, " Treats stomach cold pain, neurological headache; apply [externally]to hit and fall stasis pain. " Method of use & disage: Internal administration: Boil 1-3 qian (if fresh, 0.5-1 liang). External use: Mash and apply. Bob
Guest guest
Thanks, Bob, I didn't even realize spearmint was in the Zhong Yao Da Ci Dian. I take this herb almost daily in my green tea. It is a Moroccan custom (my wife is Moroccan), where it is called Nana. We drink it without the sugar, and serve it to guests on Friday night for Sabbath dinner.
