Guest guest
Cajeput oil is used medicinally by numerous people. It comes from Melaleuca leucadendra. This species is described in the Zhong Yao Da Ci Dian where it is called Bai Qian Ceng (Vol. 1, p. 696). Part used appears to be the tree bark. Therefore, please note that this is NOT a description of cajeput oil. Nature & flavor: Bland, level (neutral) Functions & indications: Quiets the spirit, settles, and stills Used in the treatment of neurasthenia and insomnia, 2-3 qian of the dried tree bark decocted in water and administered internally. Probably could find this tree growing in SoCal somewhere. Might be interesting to experiment with. Bob
Guest guest
There are several species of melaleuca growing in the San Diego area. I'll have to check with the S.D. Zoo database to see if they have this variety growing there. By the way, a few years ago PCOM started a project with the San Diego zoo to catalog Chinese medicinal plants that grew there. Using the Zhong Yao Da Ci Dian and the Barefoot Doctor's Manual, I was able to catalogue about eighty-five of them.
