Guest guest
mei zhang <z_xiao_mei Fri Sep 12, 2003 4:55pm Hello - I'm writing on behalf of my friend Xiaomei, who is two weeks away from completing a 4 year TCM course at the University of Technology in Sydney,Australia. I've taken the liberty of signing her up for this group - she is fairly non-computer savvy and I'm trying to convince her of the value in using the net to further her knowledge of TCM, and in meeting other practitioners online who may be able to pass on some useful information. I hope I'm not out of line here in writing on her behalf - she is studying really hard right now (as well as working full time ) and does'nt have a lot of time to spend on the net just now. Anyway, I'm hoping some of you may be able to join me in congratulating Mei - and maybe offer some encouragement and words of advice as far as starting a TCM practice etc? Thanking you in advance ~ Philip Regan
Guest guest
Dear Xiaomei and Philip, First let me congratulations Xiaomei on completing her first formal course... From an impression via the internet the courses in Australia seams very good... So in due time it will be very interesting to here any comments from here and others...from the land of oz... As for practice: create a good net work of practitioners of all sorts of medical paradigms i.e. Western doctors nurses and Eastern medicine meditation practitioners Chinese doctors and so forth. She will probably find that once in a while her patients will benefit from a second opinion from trustworthy people. Also find people whom she can ask anything with regard to Chinese medicine with out fare snobbery on the receivers end... Contemplate different styles and streams of Chinese medicine whilst focusing first on what she learnt at University... continue buying books if she can at a fairly regular interval and workshops and conference at a fairly regular interval if she can... Maybe combine a privet practice with some volunteering for a short period in some project where she can she " a fairly similar group of people and imbalances) e.g. migraine project or crack project or... Better still look for paid work within a " public " health setting (maybe not full time)... Take good case histories!!!! I am still developing how to take good case histories. In my opinion practice qi gong or something similar... In the privet practice IMO do not " specialise " to soon try to get something of a global experience that way you might find out where your affinity with Chinese medicine and patients lean towards... NEVER TREAT SOMEONE YOU FIND YOUR SELF UNCOMFORTABLE WITH OR SOMEONE WHOM ACTUALLY IS DOING A RELATIVE A FAVOUR BY COMING TO SEE YOU. I think that Bob Flaws has a web based course how to make money and it might be of interest for you... These things are just my opinions and I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST FOR NOW AND THE FUTURE... Marco Bergh Ps. if you need a holiday (which might be difficult to embark on once overwhelm with patients) Guatemala really is the place to visit:-) Pss. if you speak Chinese great if not learn it and or another Asin language with regard to Chinese medicine the demand is increasing...
