Hi there!

I'm Jeremy Ross and a new member to the group.

The Moderator (is this Tod?) has asked me to introduce myself, so I've

put a Bio below, but you can read an expanded biography, and find out

about the kind of work I do, on my website:

www.jeremyross.com

So here's the Bio:

Jeremy Ross has qualifications in botanical sciences, Western

phytotherapy, and Chinese herbal medicine. In 1968, he gained a

Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, specializing in plant

physiology and biochemistry, at Birmingham University, UK. After one

year of postgraduate research in this field, he trained and qualified

as a science teacher, also at Birmingham University.

In 1973, he moved to California and took his first course in Western

herbal medicine with Michael Tierra, ending in 1974. This practical

training was based on a synthesis of the work of the American

Physiomedical practitioners and the herbal tradition of the Native

Americans. Returning to England, he completed the course of the

National Institute of Medical Herbalists, becoming a member in 1982.

This training combined the Physiomedical and empirical approaches to

herbalism with an understanding of plant pharmacology, linking Jeremy’s

herbal studies to his original training in botanical sciences. In 1988,

he graduated from the 2-year course in Chinese herbal medicine given by

Ted Kaptchuk and completed further herbal training at the International

College of Nanjing, China, later that year.

Parallel with his herbal studies, Jeremy commenced training in

acupuncture in 1973. He graduated from the Licentiate program of the

College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, UK, in 1977, studied in

Nanjing in 1981, and qualified as Doctor of acupuncture from the

British College of Acupuncture in 1985.

For 17 years, Jeremy had a busy practice in acupuncture and herbal

medicine in Bristol, UK, before moving in 1994 to Seattle, USA, where

he now practices. He has shared his long and varied experience as a

clinician in his books and clinical trainings. He is the author of Zang

Fu: the Organ Systems of (1986), and of Acupuncture

Point Combinations: the Key to Clinical Success (1995), both published

by Churchill Livingstone.

Jeremy has organized and taught courses in acupuncture and herbal

medicine for over 20 years. He was Dean of the Swedish Institute of

Alternative Medicine, Stockholm, from 1986-1996, and in 1987, he was

one of the founders of the Academy for Traditional in

Holland. He designed the first two-year course in Chinese herbal

medicine for medical doctors in Belgium and Holland, and was the main

lecturer for the course, which ended in 1991. He has also lectured

extensively in North America.

For 15 years, Jeremy has specialized in integrating Western herbs and

Chinese medicine. He has developed a system of herb combination that

brings together concepts from Western herbal tradition, Chinese

medicine, and phytopharmacology. His 1000-page text, Combining Western

Herbs and , brings together the different themes of

Jeremy’s training and experience over the last 38 years. It is

published by Greenfields Press and available in June 2003.
