It would be interesting to ask these 444 respondents to the acupuncturetoday poll *why* they want to take the doctorate. Guest guest
I know the issue of grandfathering and the doctorate have been discussed before, but I still do not see how you can just be given a degree. What worth is there in that. To me it would be on the same level as printing your own money. Guest guest
If the conversation at the Little Hoover Commission is any indication, the whole field will have some educational process to move through with respect to diagnostic competencies (this is without east-west bias). We are likely to move rapidly toward doctorate as entry level in California and there will be no 'grandfathering.' Al - you are right, the titular urge in this field is not to be underestimated. Guest guest
Hi Rory - Here is a URL that will clarify the gravity of this process for acupuncturists in California. http://www.lhc.ca.gov/lhcdir/acupuncture/acupuncture.html Governor Jerry Brown showed up late in the session and stated that the legislative intent for the bills he signed implied diagnosis. This was contrary to the medical testimony. Will Created in 1962, the Little Hoover Commission (Milton Marks " Little Hoover " Commission on California State Government Organization and Economy) is a bipartisan, independent body whose function is to promote efficiency, effectiveness and economy in state programs. Description of Study On the request of the Legislature, the Little Hoover Commission is reviewing the regulation of acupuncture in California. SB 1951 and AB 1943 requested that the Commission make recommendations on specific issues by September 2004. SB 1951 (Figueroa 2002) comprises the core of the work required. Key issues include scope of practice, educational requirements and examinations. To view the specific legislation which details the questions that the Commission will address, please select <A HREF= " http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/postquery?bill_number=sb_1951 & sess=PREV & \ house=B & author=figueroa " >SB 1951</A> or <A HREF= " http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/postquery?bill_number=ab_1943 & sess=PREV & \ house=B & author=chu " >AB 1943</A>. As with all Commission studies, public input will be important to the outcome of this study, and is encouraged to be in written form addressing the specific issues that the Commission is studying, per SB 1951 and AB 1943. > At 3:33 AM -0400 9/30/03, WMorris116 wrote: > >If the conversation at the Little Hoover Commission is any indication, the > >whole field will have some educational process to move through with respect > to > >diagnostic competencies (this is without east-west bias). > -- > > Will, > > Do you mean all licensed acupuncturists? > What sort of educational process? > > And...what is this Little Hoover Commission? > > Rory -- out of touch in New York. > -- William R. Give me some written testimony and I will enter it at the meeting on the 22nd. Will William R. If you like, I can hook you up with some individuals in other states who took this bull by the horns to add this to the practice act in their states. -al. -- Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. -Adlai Stevenson
