This is not a matter of the unlettered challenging the lettered. > We all know Dr. Unschuld is no champion of modern clinical CM. Yes, but largely about the methodology of examination, not about the issues Ken is discussing. Sivin asserts that Unschuld's concentration on the necessity of investigating the surrounding culture is over-done and that the medical texts can be addressed directly. Sivin is in no way endorsing the status quo. It is Sivin, for example, who states about " The Web That Has No Weaver " that it is: " An insightful introduction for laymen. The author has some training in a proprietary school of traditional medicine on the periphery of China. Includes a fair extensive bibliography of Chinese sources, most of which the author has obviously never read. " Understanding that academics don't respect a doctoral credential from a non-academic institution ( " proprietary school " ), or think highly of fluffing- up a bibliography, this is a very hefty slam on TK. While this may not effect your ability to treat such-and-such sucessfully, it does effect the field's credibility to be seen as uncritial of our sources.
