If the PSA is within normal range (<4 )or in an

intermediate range (4-10) during the screening, the doctor

may restest to determine if there is a rise, or possibley

do a biopsy if it is in the intermediate range. I don't

think biopsies spread the cancer, but they are certainly an

invasive procedure, as Sammy says. Some doctors choose only

to restest and see where things are headed. for example, a

rise from a 1.0 to a 3.9 might cause some concern

eventhough 3.9 is technically within the normal.

I just heard a urologist that in fact said that they psa is only really useful

only after one has PC. I guess what he was saying is that no biopsy repeats are

usually needed.
