My process so far has been: 1. learn stroke order and character construction 2. Study the grammar section of CMC, practicing important characters such are those for no and there and is and " to be " . 3. Begin to study chinese medical vocabulary as laid out in CMC and practice drawing characters. Wenlin helps with numbers 2 and 3 by substituting for a stroke order dictionary. One can look up characters, read about their etymology and see their stroke order graphically displayed and hear them pronounced. I reinforce this more rote practice with my current plodding through the Mitchell SHL. As I get more of a handle on vocabulary and familiarity with the contents of the SHL, then I will attempt to read my unicode chinese SHL in wenlin. Guest guest
I use it fairly often to look up words and occasionally when I get a paper in Chinese, I'm able to get an idea of what it's about through Wenlin (but then ask a friend to translate if its what I want). My one complaint about Wenlin as a study tool is the flashcard component which seems akward. If it just did the cards and not the stroke tests I would be much happier. oh well. doug > > How are the studies coming with Wenlin?
