On the other hand, many people over the years have expresed their " fear " of posting becuase of potential reprisals from the more, shall we say, enthusiastic members. While I rarely find the core mebers to be truly out of control, I do suspect that many who do not post are those whose interest is mainly clinical, as evidenced by the dearth of such posts. So in order to encourage such posts, I would ask a favor of the more academically minded (amongst whom I include myself). A request for clinical advice should not be taken as an opportunity to point out either the deficiency of the sender, his education, the system as a whole, etc. We have plenty of that type of discussion already. Many on this list need to help their patients today, not tomorrow, not next year. While there are pressing issues in academia, the health of any one person at any moment trumps all of this in my opinion. So lets try and be civil on this accord and realize that requests for clinical help must be treated with respect and care even if one has concerns about the academic rigor of said request. capish? Guest guest
While clinical issues are very important, and I'd also like to see more of them discussed here, I don't think the recent discussions have been esoteric. Au contraire, I see them as dealing with the very source code of the medicine that we practice. There are lots of books, journals and articles discussing clinical issues, but essential issues about the nature of our profession don't usually appear in hard copy. But, please, folks, send in those interesting cases.
