Allergic Dog

Hi Howard et al.,

Following on Jimmy's comments,

1. IMO, skin disorders in dogs much more difficult to cure than

many other common problems. IMO, this is because the sources

of allergen often remain undetected, or one can do little to remove

them from the dog's environment.

2. This leaves two main choices: (a) try to treat the ROOT (i.e. to

being Qi-Xue to an optimal balance, so that the dog can withstand

the challenge with minimal effects), or (b) treat symptomatically

[not as successful].

3. Re the ROOT, try to Dx the most important YIN CHANNEL

imbalance (IMO a Xu-Deficiency); is it LV, LU, SP/Xue-Blood, KI,

HT? The history, temperament, constitution and other Sxs can help

here.

If you can pick the WEAKEST YIN, try the Shu + Mu + Mother

(Nourishing) Points.

3. As symptomatic Tx, I would suggest ONE point from each of the

following sets per session, alternating points between sessions:

(a) Immune Points: LI04, LI11, ST36, GV14;

(b) Local/Regional Points for the worst-affected area(s)

© LV Points: LV03, BL18, LV14

(d) SP Points: SP06, BL20, LV13

(e) KI Points: KI07, BL23, GB25

(f) Wind-Heat Points

(g) SP10-Xuehai

(h) Pruritus/Flea Allergy Pts at he apex of each ear.

I would treat once/week for 4 sessions and review then.

For LV, I would add an Ayurvedic formula - LIV52 (or LIV-52) by

Himalaya Herbs Company. It is easily got on WWW. It is excellent

as a LV Tonic and gives dramatic results in pruritus in LV Xu/LV

Wind-Heat cases.

Also, some colleagues recommend a hypoallergenic diet of brown

rice + lamb/mutton.

I agree with Jimmy that steroids may be needed in severe itch, or if

other methods fail.

PS: Consider the following (any comments from experts?):

If the dog won't go in the sea, bring the sea to him! Try vine

(knapsack) sprayer to spray him 1-2 times/week with a mixture of

seawater (or salt-water (3-5%) if sea is too far away) & Baifan-

Alum. Massage into the skin and rinse off later. When dry, dust

affected area(s) with with a mixture of powdered Huashi-Talc &

Luganshi-Calamina and massage into skin. Rinse off again in 1

hour.

Best regards,
