Yehuda IMO, Yehuda is right on target with point (2), above. For almost 100 years, the British Medical Establishment has tried to outlaw " unscientific " or " inadequately proven " medical modalities like homeopathy, etc. In essence, this is a " Turf War " , an attempt by the Establishment to monopolise a highly lucrative industry - the hospital and allied healthcare systems. Thankfully, the Medical Establishment more or less failed in their attempt to outlaw complementary therapies. Their failure was due mainly to two factors: (a) public demand for " natural therapies " , and (b) [as Yehuda said] the ability of complementary practitioners to " have friends in high places " . British royalty, and many senior politicians, were loyal supporters of complementary medicine. For example, Dr. Marjorie Blackie, a famous homeopathic doctor and author of homeopathic texts, was Queen Elizabeth's personal physician. I understand that Prince Charles, the late Princess Diana, and many influential people in Britain support/supported complementary medicine. IMO, Yehuda's suggestion to seek support from " people in high places " is, THE most important way to secure the future for complementary medicine. It is MORE IMPORTANT than attempting to run belated and underfunded research that may (or may not) " prove " the validity of Comp Med. NO AMOUNT of research in Comp Med will change the minds of those who simply do not want to see Comp Med accepted on a par with allopathic med. Established hierarchical structures hinge mainly on authority, control, management and income. The Establishment knows that it will be difficult or impossible to control those who study & practice " outside of the establishment " . That is the kernel of the problem. We are, and always will be, a " thorn in their sides " until or unless we are accepted INTO [as part of] the Establishment. But I will not hold my breath until that day comes. Meanwhile, the EU is doing all that it can to raise financial and legal obstacles to block the development of Comp Med. Because of ever-increasing EU legislation, many homeopathic and herbal remedies may be illegal to use in the future. That should make the international Pharma Industry and the medical establishment very happy indeed. Yehuda, we need to CONVINCE politicians and policy makers, as well as the general public, that Comp Med WORKS. The best way to do that is to treat them, members of their families (and their horses and small animal pets) successfully. Then they can make up their own minds. There are none so blind/deaf as those who do not want to see/hear. However, as Jose argues, if we become excellent practitioners, we can help (and influence) very many people. In that way we can foster the spread of the complementary knowledge that required several decades of hard study to master. Best regards, Phil PS: Most people have a tendency to wage " Turf Wars " ! Most [including professionals - vets, dentists, physios, engineers, architects, accountants, pilots, etc.] wish for a secure future / good income for themselves and their families. They view individuals or groups outside of their professions [and, sometimes, even WITHIN them!] as competitors that threaten their security / futures. For example, a vet with an established practice may not relish the idea of another vet setting up a practice in the same street or town! What would surgeons do if a wonder pill could obviate the need for surgery? What would dentists do if a wonder pill could totally prevent dental pathology? What would any professional do if there were a simple DIY method that " cut them out of the loop " ? We all need to work in order to earn our daily bread. In conclusion, I am not attacking medics specifically above! I have high respect for [and will someday need] western medicine. Indeed, I cannot praise highly enough the compassion and medical expertise of the doctors and nurses in the ICU/Neurology Unit of Royal Prince Albert Hospital (Sydney) who cared for my dying son last year. They were superb. But I cannot help thinking " what if? " . What if my son had been given acupuncture and herbal medicine, TOGETHER with WM in the days after severe trauma to his head due to a fall? Would that COMBINATION have saved his life? Would strong stimulation at GV26 + KI01 + oral haemostatic/trauma herbs (to counter the pinpoint bleeds in the brain due to heavy doses of noradrenalin needed to overcome his high brain pressure) have worked? Only God knows the answer.
