Guest guest
In the cases I have seen, hypo and hyper, there seem to be profound conflicts operating around life path issues and how a person is able or not able to experience him or herself as being actively " on their path, " whether with the right job, spiritually, emotionally, or in a certain intimate relationship. Some seem quite paralyzed in this respect, in fact. These issues pertain mainly to self relating to the world, I think. I have thought about what I have read (I can't summon the exact quotes at this moment) about thyroid being interpreted as being associated with San Jiao in certain early texts (although the thyroid as such was not recognized in CM) and this makes sense to me in treatment terms. I am thinking of one patient who was hypo-diagnosed in WM (borderline), but in CM terms blood stagnation was really more the obvious issue. She was almost totally dysfunctional. Once the acupuncture and herbs cleared this up, she really got her life act together very quickly. But I found that attention to San Jiao in needle treatments somehow seemed to " bring it all together " in big jumps for her. I don't have much more to add, but I still have a lot of questions. With hyper-thyroid, liver excess seems an obvious issue, but not always. My observation of several people with hyper-thyroid is that the mental scattering is very significant in blocking any recovery -- they can't think clearly, plan ahead or follow through on instructions. But the more typical HT/KI axis symptoms are not always present. I haven't had much opportunity to treat such long-term, but my sense is that sedating/grounding herbs would be very important with this. Pat I mentioned the thyroid because of the women I have seen being diagnosed with thyroid nodules (small) and diagnosed with having Hypo thyroid. They were thin young women, more Hyper in stature. They reacted very negatively, especially emotionally to their Western medications which makes me suspect of the diagnosis. But tell me about the Shen element. You must have brought this up because of some thoughts you've had or theories you've heard. doug , " Pat Ethridge " <pat.ethridge@c...> wrote: > I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the " vastly more > complicated " aspects of thyroid conditions... especially on the shen level, > as mind aspects of this are becoming more recognized in WM too. Guest guest
Definitely phlegm. I wonder if this is the real problem in all cases, hypo- and hyper-, especially with respect to mental/emotional issues.
