Malpractice carriers

I just got notice that my insurance carrier is dropping acupuncture

from their offerings and my broker will start using AIG which is

suppose to be more expensive. Anyone have any suggestions for

cheap / decent malpractice coverage? I know some of the national

organizations have some arrangements with carriers, but when I

checked in the past, the prices weren't anything to write home about.

The New Healthcare Managment Group has a program that I have 1 mil/ 3mil for

$850, with no arbitration agreements or exceptions to scope. They also have

smaller amounts available for less, but insurance carrier that I work for

require the 1/3 mil, so I get it. The carrier is Lloyd's of London.

Thier number is 888-774-2422.

Greetings,

The letter from WOods was confusing, however they are going to continue to

cover acupuncturists, but the rate is going up 20%. You might want to call your

agent. good luck.

After I went to China I had a lapse in coverage with them. They refused to

re-insure

me even though I've never had claims etc... Seemed odd, acupuncture insurance

has

to be money in the bank for them. Oh wellllll.....

On a seperate issue, I'm debating about ASHP in California. My colleagues seem

equally divided on whether to do it or not. If any one has an opinion and wants

to

comment publically or privately let me know...

Hi Doug-

I have been with ASHP for almost 3 years. I probably have had about 10

patients from this source. Some of these 10 patients have referred a spouse

or friend, sooooo in that sense it is worth it. Their paper work is really

a pain... and it has to be done frequently... on their forms, which change

like every 6 months. I have found on *any* treatment plan they have reduced

it by 1/2, and gave it some code or another about not enough supporting

information. The positive thing is they do pay rather quickly... in general

their provider services is really fast and efficient. I always get my

approval documents faxed back within 24 hours... and always get paid within

about 1 - 2 weeks.

Hi Doug and everyone interested,

At PCOM San Diego, there will likely be some forums to discuss new Work's Comp

revisions, how these are limiting chiropractor visits in 2004, and how some

chiropractors are looking to acupuncturists to reduce their shortfall, without

fairly compensating us. The topic of ASHP is another one to add to the list of

forums. I'll add this to the PCOM alumni website.

If anyone is interested in attending these forums, you may contact me.
