Guest guest
OK so this is looking grim. Here is the letter that I sent today to these gentlemen. Feel free to copy/modify/share any part. Delete the Rand report details for your friends and family who are not acupuncturists, but everyone you know can send a response. Also, you and others can call on Monday morning. I also have a press release; please contact me with the names and email addresses of local writers/radio/tv who cover the story in your area so I can give them information from our perspective. Baca, joseph.baca Phone 301.436.2359 FAX 301.436.2717 30 December 2003 Dear , I share your concern about the misuse of ephedra. However, licensed acupuncturists who are trained in the use of ephedra have a long history of administering ephedra safely. I urge you to exempt these practitioners from the ban on ephedra. There is no evidence of harm related to use as recommended by licensed acupuncturists. Ephedra can be used safely, in small amounts, combined with other herbs, over short periods of time for treatment of certain conditions. Below is a list of over-the-counter products identified in the Rand corporation report which was used by the FDA in their investigation of adverse events related to ephedra. I am a licensed acupuncturist and I have never recommended any of these products. Please preserve access to ephedra for trained, licensed practitioners. We provide important healthcare services in our communities. Respectfully submitted, Products listed in the Rand corporation report on adverse events reports related to ephedra. I would suggest that you either call or fax your letters rather than sending email, as email is too easy and most letters are not read. A phone call or faxed message, or better - a postal letter - tends to be more significant. I also urge all of you to take a stand and write not only to the FDA, but to your local representatives as well. THis group has many articulate and intelligent writers and the government needs to hear from each of you, for the support of our profession and the protection of our profession. Thank you for taking time to do this. Susan Froehlich, LAc Hood RIver, OR USA
