Guest guest
Yeah, Chris. Ditto on the chocolate - any chocolate! I think one of the reasons I get sick when I have coffee, is that I get alot of muscular tension from it - stagnation - in my lungs; my diaphragm gets tight, as well, and I breathe more shallowly. Also I get a sensation of heat rising to my head. Overlay this on a damp, phlegmy constitution, and - voila!- phlegm heat in the lungs and/or sinuses! Can't do the sushi thing either, though - grew up along the canals in New York, and seaweed reminds me too much of the stench of dead bay critters baking in the summer sun at low tide - can't get it past my nose! Glad it works for you, though! I do better with lots of hot water and simple, clear broths. Andrea Beth Musiclear wrote: You could have been writing my experience as it is almost identical. I can tolerate only so much coffee. If I surpass that, I get sick. Reparatory illness. I know it is coming when I feel the heaviness in my chest. I will get well quickly with diet of sushi, WASABI, and green tea. No coffee. I can tolerate caffeine in other forms. Coffee is the big bad for me. Chocolate is good. It doesn't matter whether the coffee is decaf or regular. It creates too much internal heat for me, makes my nose run, and generates much more yang activity than my deficient constitution can handle, and so I will get very run-down in short order. If I keep it up, I will get sick. If I can use my own experience as verification of a substance's effects, I cannot say coffee is tonifying. By the way, if I drink caffeinated sodas or teas, I do not get sick.
