Guest guest
For what it is worth, I spoke with Tan Tan Huang, a Chinese teacher at PCOM about this topic. He stated that even though a Chinese doctor may do both CM and WM, even with a single patient, that he would never call WM or its ideas, practices, methods, or theories, CM. He said WM, its ideas, practices, methods, or theories are called WM in China. He said it is different from and separate from CM. He chuckled and could not even imagine why anyone would call WM, its ideas, practices, methods, or theories CM, even though it may be practiced by a Chinese doctor in China. I also understand and wholehartedly accept Todd's intent that the CHA be a forum for the discussion of Chinese Herbs, not just within the context in CM, but also in regards to other empirical uses, scientific research, political issues, etc. When people on this forum use the term CM, it would be ideal if the meaning were transparent to all. I realize it is hard to define, but when I use the term, it will not include notions of WM, unless they were actually also part of CM anyway, such as the release of bile from the gall bladder.
