Guest guest
Hi All, See the article, below, which Richard Bleckman sent to PVA-L. I have his permission to forward it to you. Best regards, Phil >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> richard.bleckman wrote: Dr Liu Jia-Xiang presented a very fine paper at the November 2003 Intnl Conf on in London. They studied non-small cell lung Cancer in 271 patients. The group on chemotherapy (mitomyin/adriamycin/cisplatinum) PLUS herbs (Beishashen, Tianmendong, Nuzhenzi, Huangqi, Shishangbai, Yinyanghuo and Zaoxiu (Zhonglou - Rz Paridis)) had far better results than those on herbs or chemotherapy alone. Metastatic rate was 20% for chemo+herbs, 23.52% for herbs alone, 35.71% for chemo. 5 year survival rate was 20.7% for chemo + herbs, 11% for herbs alone, 0% chemo alone. Median survival time was 449 days for chemo + herbs, 406 days for herbs, 267 days with chemo alone. Similar findings were also shown in reduction of tumor size, improvement in symptoms and improvement in body weight. Interestingly the chemo and herb group had a decreased reduction in leukocyte and erythrocyte count post chemotherapy. Immunological indexes of NK, LAK, IL- 2, CD3, CD4 and CD8 were significantly improved in the chemo + herb group compared to chemo alone. This study clearly showed a benefit from combining TCM & chemotherapy in this particular cancer type. Unfortunately, I have not seen a study like this in animal patients. Re the septicaemic outcome of AP combined with chemo, after 20 years of combining herbs, acupuncture and chemo, I have no experience of septicemic reactions. Similarly none of the studies I have read over the years on adverse effects from acupuncture have reported this. I certainly will continue practice intergrative medicine. Multifactorial causation requires multifactorial response! Yours, Richard Bleckman BVSc MURHP MRCVS.
