Guest guest
Hi All, I am writing for your expertise in something I have never seen before. My partner has developed rapid changes in her tongue body and coat in the last couple of weeks, with a great deal of accompanying pain. She had previously had a slightly red tongue body with red tip and thorns, the body shape being thin but not narrow, with an average thickness white, slightly greasy coat, and a shallow midline crack extending to the lung area. In the past two weeks, she has developed some severe " canker sores " on her tongue - large, red, then ulcerated and white. A few months ago, she had similar ulceration on her upper palate. The tongue sores passed, and then the midline crack deepened dramatically - seemingly overnight. The crack is now extremely painful, and she is having difficulty eating because of it. When I last saw her tongue on Sunday, in addition to the deeper crack, the coat had changed to thick, greasy and yellow, more toward the rear. This morning (Tuesday), she described the center of her tongue as being bright red, with a grey coat. She is afraid her tongue will split in two along the crack. A couple of weeks ago, she started seeing a chiropractor who gave her what I understand to be homeopathic precursors to DHEA and progesterone. My partner has been having a very difficult time with menopausal symptoms for a couple of years - heat in the 5 centers, sensitivity to cold, insomnia, and irritability. Her irritability seems better, but it is clear that she is very hot. In addition, she quit smoking a little over 2 months ago, after 30-some odd years of smoking. She is 47. She spoke with the chiropractor yesterday, who now wants to add estrogen precursors to what she is already taking. Her health history is complicated. She's been a lifelong hard worker - an ironworker, who had a partial amputation injury to her right thumb 3 years ago. She is still in chronic pain and on Workers Comp leave with a medical condition that is still not resolved - just last week, she was diagnosed with nerve damage to the radial nerve in that arm. She is noticing that her ability to grasp things is diminishing. The toll that this injury has taken on her life is huge, in that she identifies herself with her work and she is unable to work. She does not know when she will be declared " permanent and stationary " , when she will be needing to find work, nor what kind of work she will be physically able to do. The stress and strain of this is huge. Before the injury, she would have occasional bouts of lethargy; since then, these incidents occur more frequently. She has always been a very livery type, quick to anger, easily frustrated, but she doesn't hold on to stuff. She's also a self-proclaimed adrenalin junkie (resulting in Kidney depletion!) and couch potato, with a diet of fast food, coffee, starches, meats and sweets. Since her injury, she has developed severe digestive problems - poor appetite, severe indigestion after most meals followed immediately by intense painful burping and frequent vomiting, both of which relieve her discomfort. She uses alot of antacids. She has a long history of severe asthma following a neck injury 20 years ago, treated now with multiple steroid inhalers, a nebulizer, theophylline, and several courses of prednisone annually. Aside from the prednisone, she takes all of the other meds concurrently, all the time. Stress, cold weather and humidity aggravate her asthma. It is clear to me that she has Kidney yin and yang xu, with depressive Liver heat, and Heart-Kidney disharmony. It has been harder for me to pinpoint what is happening with her Stomach/Spleen. I have considered StomachYin xu, Spleen Qi xu, Damp Heat in the Middle Jiao, and Stomach Fire, of course with an overlay of Wood invading Earth. She has a great deal of internal heat, but and complains of feels cold except for the Yin xu heat at night; yet, she is not cold to the touch. I know her asthma meds are hot and drying, damaging to Kidney yin and increase the likelihood of yin fire. I imagine these hormone precursors are also hot, due to the aggravation of her heat symptoms. But what the dickens is going on with her tongue? Has anyone else seen such rapid degradation? Has anyone helped such a condition recover, and if so, how? What worked, and how long did it take? Does anyone have info about these hormone precursors? I'd be most grateful for diagnostic input, herbal suggestions, and any relevant case studies you might have to share. Thank you and blessings, SiteBuilder - Free web site building tool. Try it! Guest guest
i'm suprised you haven't gotten any responses to this query...it seems to me that your patients body systems have been pushed acutely out of balance after 30 years of smoking, " adrenalin " lifestyle, poor diet, heavy load of phramaceuticals, hard physical work, recent injury leading to emotion and mental stress and anxiety, menopause....the rapid tongue changes are an indication of just how in the " red " and over whemed the systems are my analysis and dx: Liver Qi congestion leading to/concurrent with 1. Liver attacking Spleen/Stomach: severe digestive problems, poor appetite etc 2. Rebellious Stomach Qi: intense burping, frequent vomiting 3. Damp/Heat in middle jiao rising to tongue: severe canker sores, tongue S/S etc 4. Liver excess and def Heat disturbs spirit: insomnia, irritability, menopause syndrome etc Kidney Essence def leading to/concurrent with 1. Kidney Yin def leading to/concurrent with Liver Yin def and def Heat S/S: menopause syndrome Lung Heat/YIn damage (due to smoking) leading to/concurrent with 1. Lung Qi damage: asthma Tx principles clear Liver Heat smooth Liver Qi harmonize Liver/Spleen clear Damp/Heat tonify Kidney clear Lung Heat tonify Lung Qi formulas and herb suggestions are pretty much a balancing act between addressing acute symptoms, underlying chronic situations, excess and def symptoms...so they would necessarily be based on current situation and a treatment plan of course making steps to change lifestyle choice which are contributing aggravating the situation are key....alkalinizing the system thru diet/supplements, counseling/therapy/relaxation response for stress/anxiety i could work on some formula/herb suggestions if you like jahan dadgar < wrote: Hi All, I am writing for your expertise in something I have never seen before.
