Guest guest
I just reviewed the cost savings Kaiser has seen in a 12 month period by using acupuncture. Kaiser patients get very few visits and still the effects is huge. Comparing all office visits during a 6 months before and after acup to: Iner Medicine 8516 down to 5709 Occ med 3304 down to 1700 PT down from 3463 to 1518 PME 1015 to 976 GYN 934 to 829 Ortho 870 to 720 ER 669 down to 515 Neur 502 to 371 Erg care 442 -269 Surgery 291-246 Ans 190-214 ALL -123-100 FPR 108-92 NSG 87 to 86 CAM 79-58 PED 60-34 GMD 61-25 Now this are very large cost savings and Kaiser only uses acup for pain. Guest guest
Here is the rest of the information regarding cost First published in TPMG Form Nov/Dec 2003 Volume 15:6 An Integrated Approach to Complementary and Alternative Medicine....Our approach to CAM is in keeping with the overall philosophy of Kaiser Permanente, which is integrated delivery of care based on the best available Evidence... says Harley Goldberg DO TPMG director for CAM...There now is a body of evidence in support of Kaiser Permanete's Mind/Body Medicine Program to treat stress related illness. Evaluation of the program have demonstrated a significant benefit for memberswho complete at least half of the eight session series. with substantial positive effect on reduction in symptoms or symptom frequency of depression, anxiety and somatization...And a pilot study in the North Valley demonstrated a significant impact on utilization of medical services, including a 38% reduction in primary care utilization, a 45% reduction in emergency use, 22% fewer urgent care visits and 41% less psychiatry service utilization... I still need to get the full ref for the acupuncture numbers Alon
