Guest guest
Jaclyn, Actually I have not written anything on tobacco, not sure why, just haven't. If I had to put it into the TCM framework I would say that it is; very warming, lots of yang energy; acrid, bitter, slightly toxic (internally); channels entered, hell I don't know this assignment always seemed strange to me but if I had to guess lung, san jiao, stomach, ???; EXTERNALLY it quickens the blood and transforms stasis, I would also say it helps open or free the network vessels. For this a liniment or simple tea works great. The tincture can be added to your favorite liniment or you can make your own using it along with whatever other herbs you like. As to the asthma, VERY SMALL doses (1/4-5 gtts) of the tincture or (in most cases) the inhaled smoke can give some relief during an asthma attack. It is very important to understand that this is ONLY useful for a person who is a tobacco smoker, I would never try this on anyone who did not already smoke. Further, the person does not actually take a drag from a cigarette, the smoke, from the openly burning tobacco, is blown into the persons face while they are panting. I have seen this be totally unhelpful in at least one case but have seen it help several others. I don't recommend the tincture until you are more familiar with the plant, it is strong medicine! As to a monograph, there is scattered information in much of the ethnobotanical works from the regions in America where the plant is native and some from where it is not. It was a widely traded and used herb for many different purposes, mostly ceremonial. Some traditions saw/see it as an old grandfather who helps to balance the influences and translate the teachings of old grandmother earth. Michael Moore has some information on it somewhere but I can't seem to find it at the moment, I believe he only discusses it as a external medicament, check his website. Hope this helps, thomas " scoot6687047 " <villaluna Tobacco, an herb not to be forgotten " I use tobacco extensively in external preparations and have found it quite useful for acute asthma in some individuals. " Thomas, could you write more about this, or direct me to the monograph you have probably written on tobacco?
