Guest guest
Dear Group, I have known people who participated in test item writing in California, and my understanding of the process is that they work together, in a workshop-type environment, using the source texts. The leaders of the workshop train the item writers with guidelines (for example, making the four choices of a multiple choice question equal in complexity; not writing questions with two correct answers, etc. -- and all the other techniques of proper test writing that educators are aware of), and all questions written are reviewed by others. It is also my understanding (I think Brian brought this up) that each exam administered to a crop of candidates is actually given to a group of practitioners, so that a difficulty level can be established. This helps the CA board decide on the passing rate for each specific exam. All of these safeguards serve to ensure a degree of fairness, and consequently, it is less important how much actual " expertise " or experience a test item writer has. As for Teresa's patient load, it does seem impressive. The question is, Teresa, where are you practicing? In an area less populated with acupuncturists? Here in Santa Monica, where there is an acupuncturist on every corner, like Starbucks, it is hard in the first two years of practice to see 45 patients a week. Being that San Diego County is so huge, there are certainly allot of practitioners. The more I work my Dao, the busier I seem to get. Go Figure. Guest guest
I would suspect that you have made a relationship with an MD, DO, or DC, & that that relationship has helped feed clients your way. Is that correct? -Tim Sharpe Teresa Hall [Teresa.bodywork4u] Saturday, March 20, 2004 9:08 PM Re: Test writing/patient load Hi Julie- > As for Teresa's patient load, it does seem impressive. Guest guest
Hi Tim- I get referrals from the Western Community, the web, private insurance, I limit myself to 2 liens at any one time, a referral group that I attend 1x a week, flyers I put up in different places... I do some health fairs and street fairs... and I do ALLOT of manifesting. I have also paid hundreds of dollars on learning how to bill, and receive money effectively. I would estimate that 30 to 50% of biz is cash and credit card. Also, I volunteer and see 4 patients/month from our local Holistic Aids Response Program (HARP). I have 2 practices, 1 private and 1 paid postion, at a Pain & Addiciton facility, where I serve as Director of Acupunture & Oriental Medicine.
