You get a range of answers, of course, but what you find is that most believe that " patent " and " patentable " or " patented " are synonymous and that naïve laypersons believe the performance of these products has been verified in the way that western OTC drugs have been verified. True, you get the occassional cowboy movie fan who thinks they are snake oil sold off the back of a wagon but adoption of the marketing term " patent " has contributed to conferring authority where it should not be.
