Guest guest
Hi All, Somehow, I am on a mailing list of business owners in California which support our new governor's efforts to reform Workers' Comp. As if the recent changes aren't confusing and detrimental enough, this bill, if passed, would be disastrous. The people who are putting it forth under Schwarzenneger's name are attempting to " streamline " the system by eliminating all of the current protections afforded to injured workers. My partner is currently in the middle of an unresolved WC case, so this issue hits hard close to home - and her lawyer called her yesterday to say she will likely discontinue her WC law practice, because there will be no place for lawyers within the revised system; no legal recourse for injured workers whose cases are prolonged, or whose care isn't meeting their needs. I have not read the initiative through in detail, but scores of sections are proposed to be eliminated. Please read it and decide for yourselves. I think we need to speak out against this measure. Our governor is proposing it as part of his " economic recovery " plan for California. By the way, the groups paying for the publicity and petitions is called " Committee for Workers' Compensation Reform and Accountability " , www.reformworkerscomp.com. Address: PO Box 25278, Santa Ana, CA 92709. It is " a Coalition of Taxpayers, Workers, Small Business Action Committee, Grimmway Enterprises and Foster Poultry Farms.
