Prostate Cancer, Hormone Therapy and Herbs?

I have a 58 year old patient who was diagnosed in November with

prostate cancer. His PSA at the time was 39. He has been taking

Lupron (GnRH Analog) injections 1x per month and at his last check in

January his PSA was 2.87.

Other meds - Casodex (Antiandrogen) and Flomax (Alpha Adrenergic

Blocking Agent).

Enzyme Therapy - 50 plus for Men, Healthy Cells Prostate, Cell Forte,

Quercetin, Curcumin, Mushroom Complete, E, C, and Calcium ocasionally.

He has made significant changes to his diet, tending away from red

meat of any kind, he is exercising daily and having acupuncture

treatments 1x per week

Diagnosis Lu Qi Xu with Phlegm accumulation, Lv Qi Stasis and Xue

Stasis in Lv channel. The patient has a constitutional Lu deficiency

with typical lung body type, he has suffered nasal polyps and

allergies for years and is a mouth breather.

Energy - gradual improvement over the past month

Sleep - often disturbed due to external factors

Temp - Runs normal temp with cold hands and feet, sweats appropriate

to activity

Appetite - good - 4-5 meals per day, careful to avoid large portions

or red meat, snacks on vegetables and fruit

Thirst - Has constant dry mouth 6 glasses of water per day

BM's daily and health

Urine - 1-2 times at night " more out of habit than necessity " - less

urgency during the day - stream is now constant with minor hesitancy

on stopping flow

HEENT - dry mouth (may be side effect of Rx) but is also a mouth

breather -suffers allergies year round but lives with it

Emotional - generally shy, likes to be outdoors, avoid crowds - tends

to " bury " emotions

Tongue - dusky pink, red tip, greasy coat to rear - patient hesitant

to extend tongue

Pulse - deficient Lu, wiry Lv, and deep in both rear positions.

Palpation - deep knotted sensation anterior to ASIS, sharp pain at LV

5 on both sides.

Blood Pressure - ranges around 155/105 - pre Tx. post Tx 145/80

On last check up the PA noted some infringement between prostate and

bladder and some benign cysts on liver - nothing to worry about.

Patient wants to end the hormone therapy and avoid radiation and is

keen to try Chinese Herbs along with the acupuncture.

What is the group consensus on treating with herbs while undergoing

hormone therapy - does anyone have any specific comments or

experience with dual treatment? Any advice on a formula base, other

than Xiao Yao San with Er Chen Tang, and additional herbs for Xue Yu?

Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

Try checking out info on www.dreliaz.com he is a L.Ac. and M.D in practice in

Sebastapol, Calif. Specializing in cancer treatment utilizing integrative

medicine. He just finished studies with a very specific molecular weight

modified

citrus pectin that is very effective for Prostate cancer. I believe his

company Econuegenics markets it. He also has a very good mushroom compound. He

is

available for consultations I believe, cost ?, I don't know.

I attended a lecture by him in January and enjoyed the info. Since then I

have heard good and not so good things about him from a prior classmates and a

patient, but no one is perfect and some cancer patients are struggling with all

of their medical team and the generic arrogance that sometimes appears in the

face of discouraging outcomes...I do believe his research is accurate. Call

for more info after you check the website. He may also have another upcoming

class.

A cancer patient I spoke with recommended checking online for the work of Dr.

Rau in Europe, I haven't yet, but you might find something there. Also Dr.

Matthais Rath, MD has some interesting research and products and will send you

lots of info for free.Hope that helps.
