Guest guest
Hi List, Just downloaded a new program for us Mac OSX users out there. Called LiveDictionary 1.0 (trying free trial now) , it is a plug-in for Safari which gives translation of words in web pages as you hold the cursor onthem!! I just downloaded the CEDICT plugins for both simplified and traditional chinese and it seems to work well. This is not an advertisement, I have nothing to do with this product - just think it is very handy for reading chinese on net for us english speakers. Guest guest
End??? It seems not. A pattern a yearly upgrades is forming with OSX. I skipped 10.2 (jaguar) but did the jump to panther....and noticed HUGE improvements and would recommend the upgrade. But, then again, we are closer to " tiger " now than the release of panther. Sorry Phil, have not seen any PC version- perhaps it is time Todd and I saved you from the dark-side and helped you into to the light;-) Best Wishes, Steve On 22 Apr 2004, at 4:57 AM, wrote: > , " " > <@e...> > wrote: >> Hi Steven >> >>> I downloaded it from >>> http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23155 >> >> Is there a version that is compatible with PC / Microsoft / Internet >> Explorer? >> > > > you also need panther on Mac. will the upgrades ever end??!! > > > >

Does it only work for html or other files, too? Speaking of the light, has anyone used the iChat AV on mac OSX. Full video phone calls internationally with no long distance charges - sound supposedly as good as the phone and video like a hi-res digital camera. If multiple users could log on to a single stream, then this technology could be used to inexpensively videocast live interactive presentations to anyone who had the iChat software. I am not sure this is possible. Has anyone looked into other live videocast options. I experimented with streaming a few years back, but the bandwidth and other technical issues made the costs prohibitive. Perhaps that also has changed. Guest guest
A friend showed me the ichat last night. He's a computer expert and he loves it. He says the $150 camera for OSX is the only way to go. Pretty much real time it seems. doug > > Speaking of the light, has anyone used the iChat AV on mac OSX. Just HTML as far as I can see. I'm still playing around with mine. Still a little unsure as to how to use it exactly. It doesn't seem to know all the terms, that's for sure. In regards to medical terms, there are instructions as to how to do this manually by generating a text file. Might be kind of fun to do this for ourselves. > Speaking of the light, has anyone used the iChat AV on mac OSX. I've used the audio chat. I finally got panther 10.3.3 loaded, which blows away jaguar, BTW. I can't believe how much better my mail program works, for example. I find the live dictionary to be useless for medical translation and it seems significantly more limited than Wenlin. I have not found it very helpful so far, except for page names (of which don't underestimate the value). As for adding text files, it probably easier to just cut and paste into wenlin. On the other hand, since the live dictionary is only $25, we could recruit an army to do the files. Doubt it will happen, though. On a related note, it may be some time before the terms in the PD are made part of the wenlin database. However since the files can be edited by users, I wonder if someone could upload about 500 common terms and then SELL the database to wenlin users w/o violating any copyrights. Bob Felt?
