Guest guest
Zev - I guess this question would be directed mostly to you as my memories are of your classes re Gui Zhi Tang. A 14 year old male, 6 feet 1 " extremely active and outgoing, has significant and continuous cold sweating of the palms and soles - so much so that it is interferring with his tennis and other sporting activities. He is otherwise very healthy - does not catch colds, has no respiratory or digestive problems, sleeps well, has a relatively healthy diet for a teenager - maybe 1-2 fast food visits per week. Pulse - appears normal - has good St Qi and seems balanced in all positions, neither fast nor slow Tongue - nothing remarkable The sweating occurs regardless of activity but is more pronounced when he is anxious. My inclination is to treat with Gui Zhi Tang, however, the pulse does not seem to indicate any floating and his overall ability to resist colds etc has me puzzled. Am I missing something? Also how long would I expect to keep him on the formula before seeing results? Obviously as a teenager it is going to be hard to have him stick with herbs unless I manage the expectations... Thank you in advance Kayte
Guest guest
Dear Katye, A few more questions. 1) Does the sweating effect only the hands and feet, or the entire limb(s)? 2) Is this patient on any medications for anxiety? 3) Does this patient have frequent urination, especially at nighttime? 4) Does your patient have acne, any skin condition? 5) Does your patient use any medication for a skin condition? The signs and symptoms don't sound to me like gui zhi tang at this point. There appears to be no aversion to wind, fatigue, heat effusion or spontaneous sweating of the body. Also, make sure the pulse is not weak when you press down to the earth level.
