Hi All,

It seems that I am not the only one confused re the herbal extract

formula + starch! Several different opinions were expressed as to

what exactly was meant.

IMO, as is the case with WM drugs, all herbal formulas for

medicinal use need to have clear and unambiguous labelling and

dosage instructions.

LABELLING:

1. ALL formulas should have labels printed in the main language of

the importing country, as well as in Chinese (hanzi) script.

The label (or accompanying data sheet) should list the percentages

of ALL raw ingredients in the formula, including starch, diluent or

other filler or vehicle.

For example, formula XXXX contains dried powdered extracts, back-

corrected to the equivalent percentages of dried herb:

14.35% Heshowwu

11.96% Tusizi

7.18% Buguzhi

7.18% Xuduan

7.18% Dangshen

7.18% Baizhu

5.74% Danggui

5.74% Yinyanghuo

33.49% Filler

100% TOTAL

DOSAGE:

The dosage (and any necessary preparation before use, should be

stated clearly.

For example: Mix 10g of powdered formula in 30ml of warm wine.

Take that amount twice/d.

Illegible / undecipherable labelling, inadequate detail of the

ingredients, ingredients not totalling to 100%, and fuzzy dosage

instructions are all ammunition to justify confiscation or banning of

the formula by the drug regulation authorities.

Best regards,
