Guest guest
Has anyone tried MSM? I have had great success using it both internally and topically for softening scar tissue and reducing inflammation. Also the best thing going for burns of all kinds including sunburn. This is a cheap, non-toxic effective derivative of DMSO with no side effects (although at mega doses diarrhea occurs signaling one's maximum dose). It also has a slight anticoagulant property (less than aspirin) so appropriate caution should be exercised pre and post surgery or when used in combo with warfarin etc. My personal experience: chronic lower back pain DX bulging disc at L3 pain radiating to front of leg--5 years duration. Was due to seated injury on a boat about 20 years ago--got tossed into air and landed in a seated position with " shock " transferring to spine. Gradually worsened over the years to debilitating. Tried " everything " : acu, herbs, chiro, PT. Happened upon the book " The Miracle of MSM " and followed the advice within. Took 20g per day for 6 months with complete relief of pain after 3 weeks use. Tried to wean off several times with recurrance of pain until 6 month mark at which point I was able to stop with no recurrance of pain. Now, 3 years later, have only had two minor recurrances which respond to MSM and are much shorter in length and intensity. I have full use of my body and feel better and stronger than I have in 20 years. It also relieves the arthritis in my knees. I believe the MSM reduced the spasms and softened old scar tissue in the area. There are also several testimonials about keloid scars after serious burns and skin grafts which responded well to internal/external treatment. I sell a ton of this. Guest guest
Shanna: Here is some information on MSM. It is important to read. When using MSM on individuals it is upmost important to also use B6, B12 and Folic acid. There are also other nutrients that can be used but these are the basic's. If you would like me to email you the entire article let me know. If you do any type of blood lab work, always run a Homocysteine level on each patient. This will be a good baseline. If it comes back postive or negative have the patient take the vitamins. If it comes back postive meaning there levels are increased and they continue on those vitamins, I usually will not run another test for 2-3 years provided they stay on those nutrients. If the levels come in at normal I still have them stay on the vitamins because its inexpensive health inusrance for the conditions that can be helped or avoided. The health range varies but according to life extension thay like to keep the levels below. 7.0 which is pretty consistent among others who use healthy ranges instead of the normal ranges of blood tests. Hope this helps Brian N. Hardy, DC, LAc, DACBN, CCN Article Sulfur supplementation, MSM, DMSO, etc. has become popular, because sulfur is such an important element that is utilized in many reactions, especially those involved with joint/cartilage repair and liver detox pathways. The question is, what is the best source of sulfur? Products such as MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) have surfaced on the market to provide an outside source of sulfur that in turn may hopefully be incorporated into the body and utilized for all the reactions and building blocks requiring sulfur. As you can see from the above diagram, when the homocysteine pathway is functioning correctly, the end-product is NATURAL sulfur, which is manufactured IN the body and is already endogenously (inside) present for beneficial results. Additionally, resources such as Jonathan Wright, MD point out that MSM can create a molybdenum deficiency because exogenous, (outside) sources of sulfur will drain molybdenum resources because the molybdenum is essential for sulfur metabolism. On the contrary, NATURAL provision of sulfur makes what the body needs, and does not create an excess pool which then must drain molybdenum to be metabolized. Additionally, the product that was formulated to optimize the correct functioning of the homocysteine pathway (Homocysteine Redux) contains ALL of the necessary, synergistic nutrients (including molybdenum) to ensure that all the reactions that depend on the homocysteine pathway are optimized. These reactions include: 1. The synthesis of building blocks for cartilage/tissue repair that depends on the natural sulfur molecule; 2. The liver detox path that utilizes sulfur to detox insults to the system (especially metals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium); 3. The methyl donations from SAM (S-adenosyl methionine), which are used for the synthesis of neurotransmitters, and essential cell components such as phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine. SAM has also been used by itself as a nutritional supplement, but look at the pathway - unless you have all the necessary ingredients to optimize the efficiency of the whole pathway (nutrients that are in Homocysteine Redux), SAM can metabolize to the toxic homocysteine in just two more metabolic steps! There is another reason that addressing the correct functioning of the homocysteine pathway is important – if the necessary nutrients are not present, homocysteine can build up and become toxic. The synergistic balance of the nutrients in Homocysteine Redux recycle homocysteine to methionine to avoid toxicity (vitamin B-12, folic acid, and methyl donors such as choline or betaine (trimethylglycine). Reducing homocysteine levels has been associated with reducing the risk for a whole host of conditions, from heart disease to osteoporosis, and MSM doesn’t have that claim associated with it. So, in addition to the fact that Homocysteine Redux provides natural sulfur instead of the exogenous sulfur from MSM, and it doesn’t deplete molybdenum like MSM can. Excess homocysteine is implicated in several different conditions. P.S. The product they are mentioned is sold thru NutriWest, although several good professional products are also manufactured thru other companies. Shanna Hickle <shannahickle wrote:Has anyone tried MSM?
