Guest guest
I really think the ongoing debate underscores my point we have two professions with little common ground and little hope of reconciliation. I will never accept the new age mystics and many of the spiritually inclined (to use a more PC label) will always reject science. where is the bridge? It is like when the jehovahs show up at my door. I don't want them to die or be deprived of life, liberty and happiness. I just want them to go away because we do not even speak the same language and its just a big waste of my time. This idea that we have to accept unlimited diversity in a profession is a crock. We have to accept diversity in society and that is reasonable and desirable, but professions can and should set standards and I think the exclusion of mysticism from medicine is a reasonable standard. Remember many times in history, what was the mysticism of the day ended up as the science of tomorrow. What cannot be measured today, may very well be measured tomorrow. Science is still in it's infancy. We know far less than we know. It is way too easy to dismiss as mysticism that which we cannot explain with our very limited knowledge and science. I too would like to back up what up our profession with science. However, I am not willing to dismiss as mysticism that which can't be explained yet.
