Guest guest
I haven't been checking the list for a while and was interested to see the discussion that has ensued between the " scientists " and the " new agers " . I have a practice in Jerusalem, Israel, of both and Healing - and seemingly can't really exist in harmony with myself. I have to say, without sounding conceited, that I was one of the most serious students in my class, after having a Masters in History and changing professions. And the more I treat with , the more I realize just how important our role is to be as professional as can be. My practice is very succesful, and while a practitioner MUST be knowledgable of as much as one can - self development - in my understanding is the key to being a practitioner and not only how much he or she knows. Healing on all levels , is an art, not only a science. And devleoping skills that go beyond textbook medicine of any type is the only thing, in my humble opinion, that distinguishes between a truly capable practitioner, or not. Although one can say that diagnosing of the tongue can be scientific, the pulse, which is understood only through other senses that can't be tested, is one of the clues that we are different. How many of us have felt a pulse and intuited the diagnosis, rather than broken it up into slippery, wiry, or floating? That doesn't mean that we have to be unprofessional because we can't be described through the standards of Western Medicine. We can speak one language that is understandable for those who don't speak our own , but why would we give up the beautiful side of a medicine that takes into account nature, the seasons , and most of all the emotional state of the person lying in front of us. It might just be that living in Jerusalem, where little makes sense, requires a different type of practitioner. But my gut (or my intuition) tells me that as we grow as a profession - we're going to need practitioners of spirit and not only of science (as in my book they are incorporated in each other....). And also, in my book, which it seems to me needs publishing (first it has to be written - jest...), spirit and secular do not oppose each other, for even in the secular world there is inspiration...
