Guest guest
" I strongly feel that the two tenets we need to use when viewing phenomena beyond our comprehension are: one, there is the possiblility that we someday may be able to explain the currrently unexplainable rationally, or two, because we are limited by time and physicality, it is possible that we may never be able to explain them. Either way, to dismiss that which is " meta " physical as " new-age " , magic or religion is the major danger of the pseudo-science of scientism. Its tenets too are founded upon fundamentalism. " I think that it's also important to realize that this is a major reason why the success of the " war on cancer " as it was known as I was growing up in the 60s, has been about the same as the war in Vietnam was: both have been disasters and utter failures, both have cost unneccessarity billions of dollars, and both operate on the principle that you must use an elephant to kill a fly. (Being able to detect cancer earlier than before does not connote victory. It can be compared to having sophisticated monitoring equipment that detects a missile is about to fall on your city, but can't stop it!) We practitioners and advanced students of Chinese medicine already know that to resolve the stealth threat that cancer poses, we need to address the acute problem, of course, and stop the spread and metastases. But as well, we need to, for example, address the terrain and predisposition that created the qi and blood stagnation, tonify and support the kidney and spleen, and educate the patient on what needs to be done to prevent a recurrance. Very unscientific, from a biomedical perspective, but as Are implied, other disciplines such as Chinese medicine, have their own logic and rules, many times contrary to the Western medical model. Their very efficacy validates them and certainly doesn't define them as pseudoscience, just different yet valid. Does this make sense?
