Guest guest
Dear Friends and colleagues, I wanted to report an interesting reaction. A male patient age 36 with classic kd yin deficiency came down with otitis media, with a clear odorless discharge. He had been taking liu wei di huang wan without consequence. After taking one dose of zhi bai di huang wan before retiring, he woke up the next morning with a measles like rash, from head to toe. Surprised by such a reaction, I looked in Bensky's Materia Medica and low and behold found this entry at the end of Huang Bai: " Toxicity: There has been one case reported in the Chinese literature of a patient who developed a rash after ingestion of Cortex Phellodendri (huang bai). When the patient was later skin tested , there was a strong local reaction. " Has anyone else experienced similar allergic reaction?
