Guest guest
Chinese medicine has tremendous potential to transform society: 1. herbs and acupuncture are cheap and low tech. if proven effective, health care costs could drop dramatically 2. the widespread use of chinese formulas and acupuncture will lead to advances in the understanding of pharmacology, biochemistry and physiology that could have profound effects on the future of medicine and science as they challenge the paradigmatic reductionism now dominant. 3. the developing holistic bodymind paradigm stimulated by this interaction could lead to calls for teaching meditation and yoga in grade school to combat stress and promote disciplined behavior (not for spiritual development or the whole thing backfires). we could expect better health, a stronger economy and less crime and poverty. But none of this will happen unless we present TCM as a rational secular form of medicine. Otherwise we will eventually be marginalized as a bunch of kooks and relegated to the dustbinsof history.
