Guest guest
I just noticed a new text at Redwing.........it claims to be a more advanced and accurate text for pattern differentiation. Also, it seems to address some of our common concerns regarding terminology and referencing. This is a quote... " Diagnosis in Traditional concludes with a glossary that links any term that cannot be lookedup in English in the Practical Dictionary of to a term that can be so referenced. Thus the Chinese, Pinyin, and description of every concept used in the text can be conveniently accessed by those who need to do so. " Has anyone read the new Maciocia text on Diagnosis? Any feedback you are willing to give? I am still in the market for a relatively advanced diagnosis text; I have Tiatou Deng text. Guest guest
Hi Steven Yes, I have bought this text and have found it extremely helpful. While I still occasionally have found that it skips some things I have been looking for (pinpoint pupils for instance--is that Lv heat, yin xu, yang rising--does anyone know?), it does seem to cover many symptoms and signs quite well. For instance, I didn't know that patchy balding was a sign of blood stasis as opposed to thinning hair which has the rest of the usual host of diff dx's. I could try to fax you the table of contents if you wanted to get an idea of how it is set up. The glossary has headings of general, symptoms and sign, disease symptoms, vital substances, emotions, channels and points, pulse positions, pulse qualities, methods of treatment, and pathogenic factors. It is organized under each heading alphbetically according to pinyin with Chinese characters included. It looks to be about 5 1/2 pages long. It's really a cross-reference for translation (without discussion or definition) as all that stuff is covered in the text itself. I really like it. The English terminology is not further cross-referenced to other terminologies (like xu might say vacuity but not go on to say deficiency). I would also just like to mention that as far as treatment manuals go I also like Maciocia's " The Practice of " and " Obstetrics and Gynecology in " as well. He always gives you dosages for the ingredients in the formulas which give you a ballpark to start with and which you can modify according to the intensity of the patients various symptoms. The formulas I have tried so far have been wonderfully successful as well as the acupuncture suggestions. I have found them all easy to work with and very applicable and reliable in my practice. I'd go for it. Allen this is true, but brings up a couple of issues... For example, do want support amazon or Bob Felt? Maybe Bob will give Todd the same deal if he refers people from his website. Maybe Bob will match amazon's prices so that we can be more inclined to buy from him... Just sticking up for the little guy... -
