Guest guest
Hi all, I would like to hear your ideas on treating someone (in this case a man) who is quite overweight with diabetes and high cholesterol. He has been working on his diet, but I get the sense that he still eats poorly here and there. But there's only so much I can do with that. His tongue looks pretty damp, not surprisingly, and I can't even feel his pulses. His tongue also has quite a bit of red spots on the front. He has responded pretty well to acupuncture---his diabetic blood levels have improved dramatically, sleep has improved, and pain is greatly decreased. But his cholesterol is high and they want to put him on meds, which he is post-poning to try herbs. I've mainly been clearing heat (he's very hot) and dampness and moving qi and tonifying his spleen. I always find it a bit confusing when I see diabetics who are overweight (which I know is common in type 2) because we think of diabetes as yin xu with heat---which I think of as being a very thin person (I know its not that simple though). I'm thinking that phelgm-fire scorched his yin, and that's how I think about his diabetes. So if anyone has any ideas about treating him with herbs I would welcome them. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Laura I can't answer your question but I have a nice reference to treatment of diabetes with CM. It is the special site of bluepoppy's book about diabetes http://www.chinesemedicaldiabetes.com/ it has a lot of nice free articles available about treating diabetes. Maybe you can find your answer in one of those.
