Guest guest
I want to make sure everyone is aware of the mission of CHA and its membership requirements. CHA has always been open to other than those in the L.Ac. profession if they meet can contribute on a professional level based upon training or experience. quite a few vocal members over the years have not been L.Ac.s. While the sole criteria for entrance is mine, I do pay close attention to how members demonstrate their knowledge. Useful knowledge of the subject and the ability to convey that in words is the main criteria. Laypersons with no herbal training and those whose sole intent is to market do not get on this list. However the list has always included qualified lay herbalists, book publishers, product suppliers, etc. The list is not restricted to those who practice TCM style, either. the topic is chinese herbs and related subjects. This includes pharmacological approaches to herb use and integrative medicine. There is nothing about our mission or our forum that has ever had anything to do with the promotion of the acupuncture profession. The fact that issues germane to the profession come up on this list is no surprise as most american chinese herbalists are L.Ac. Those issues do belong here as they are part of the greater landscape of TCM herbal practice. But promoting the profession of acupuncture as the controllers of chinese herbology has never been my mission, nor will it ever be. While I support the independent acupuncture profession and the right of L.Ac. to practice chinese herbology, my posts over the years clearly reveal I have never supported control of any of the techniques of OM by our profession. My interest is what I perceive as the greater good. This means promoting healthcare freedom, not territorial warfare. I'll leave the latter to the actual professional organizations. from the forum homepage: A discussion group on the topic of Chinese herbal medicine for healthcare professionals and students enrolled in formal programs of medical training, as well as postgraduates from related disciplines, such as pharmacology, medical education and sinology. and from CHA's homepage: The primary mission of Chinese Herbal Medicine is to promote advanced study and research in Chinese Herbal Medicine, with particular attention to both the exploration of classical texts and the developments of modern science. The goal of this mission is to help lay a foundation for an Integral modern 21st century medicine that draws insight from the great medical traditions of Asia. Chinese Herbal Medicine provides various professional services, including board approved continuing education classes and an annual conference. In order to further our mission and keep apace of the needs and interests of the professional community, Chinese Herbal Medicine moderates a professional discussion forum in Chinese Herbal Medicine. The forum is comprised of members who are licensed healthcare practitioners, matriculated students and others specializing in Chinese Herbal Medicine.
