Guest guest
I have a 27 year old female patient that has been diagnosed with PCOS and suffers from excessive hair growth on her face and abdomen. She attributes it to the potocin she got when giving birth to her son 4 years ago. She also has asthma and has had steroid treatment as a child. She has seen MD's who want to put her on estrogen and has been to a naturopath as well. She takes 1/2 grain of thyroid (from ND) and is also concerned about swelling in her neck, which to me looks more like a thick neck than obvious goiter. Her blood sugar so far has been normal. She has tenderness over both ovaries(with occ. sharp pains) and in the low abdomen, St 25 and Ren 12. She has also gained a lot of weight since giving birth and is fatigued, hot and thirsty easily. Frequent urination that is clear. She also has itching of the skin under her breast with no redness and fine little bubbles (along with the hair) that pop up on her cheeks and chin with no exudate. Her pulse is more slippery but not excessively so. Tongue red to pale red ( I have seen it more purple at times) and raised red spots mostly in the front. Thin white coat. Besides treating the obvious patterns here, phelgm, damp heat, blood stasis, what I really want to know is: does anyone here have successful experience with treating hirisutism? Is there any special herbs that I should use in her formula? Thanks Jill Likkel
