Evidently, a chemical from the khat plant (Catha edulis), cathine,

may enhance the development of sperm and be used as a fertility aid

in the future. Khat is a plant chewed for its stimulating effect in

the Middle East and East Africa.

Khat contains cathinone, which is a largely unknown yet scheduled

drug in America. Americans of Middle-Eastern descent currently face

a high risk of prosecution if caught using this plant, the use of

which was widely tolerated before Sept 11th. Americans of African

descent have long become accustomed to racially skewed law

enforcement techniques, and it is unlikely that the 'war on

terrorism' is having as great an impact on their khat chewing

practices. But the white folks in the lab still have access and

think that this metabolite of cathinone may prove to be a marketable

and useful drug.

it seems the white fundamentalists have one more trick to boost

their population, while simultaneously ensuring that the darker

skinned folks remain marginalized. ironic, but I'm sure George

thinks it must be justified if " we are to win the war on terror and

bring freedom to the world. "
